Granger charges Barticians to be mobilised for local govt elections

Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Brigadier David Granger on Sunday charged party members in Bartica to be mobilised for the forthcoming local government elections. He made the charge during a visit to the mining community to discuss the way forward with party members, a release from the PNCR said.

Granger explained his 10-point plan which evolved from his interactions with party members and private citizens over the last two years. He remarked that this month the PNCR is celebrating its 55th anniversary and called for a return of party pride. He urged party members not to allow the skewed views of others to make them reluctant to speak of the many accomplishments of the PNC in government.
Granger, according to the release, called on the Guyana Youth and Student Movement (GYSM) and the National Congress of Women (NCW) to help rebuild the party’s membership.
Bartica, he said, was the administrative centre and economic hub of Cuyuni-Mazaruni (Region Seven) and deserved to be treated respectfully by the central government. He called on Bartica to examine the experience and example of the much smaller community of Kwakwani.
Referring to the election of their own Kwakwani Neighbourhood Development Committee (NDC) by the residents themselves to resist the unfair imposition of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) by the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic administration, Brigadier Granger emphasised that “all politics is local” and local residents must insist on being consulted on local issues.
The PNCR said the Barticians are unhappy over the removal of their NDC and the installation of an IMC. Brigadier Granger also promised party members that, under his leadership, the PNCR’s participation in A Partnership for National Unity will continue to be consolidated and that the party will build bridges to other communities.
He emphasised the importance of rebuilding the PNCR’s historic relationships with religious organisations and trade unions and ensuring fundamental rights. Granger was accompanied by Party Vice-Chairman Dr George Norton, MP, Regional Chairman Gordon Bradford and several members of the Regional Democratic Council.
