Guyanese farmers and investors in the non-traditional agricultural sub-sectors will be able to access finances for their activities from two funding facilities starting next year. The two financial packages will make some Gy$600 million available for disbursement in grants and loans. Sugar workers countrywide will receive a five per cent one-off payment retroactive to January 2010, President Bharrat Jagdeo announced on Wednesday. At a meeting with scores of sugar workers at the International Conference Centre, Jagdeo disclosed that this payout will cost the government some $G720 million. Former PNCR Member of Parliament Abdul Kadir was sentenced to life in prison for his role in a failed plot to blow up fuel lines and tanks at New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday.
