Russian Ambassador to Guyana, Nikolay Smirnov, on Sunday hosted a reception at the Russian Embassy for five students from Linden and Berbice who were awarded scholarships to study at the People’s Friendship University in Moscow. A new media body has been launched, and it has promised to raise the standards of the media in Guyana. President Bharrat Jagdeo will soon constitute a committee to review applications received for radio licences. Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon, told reporters on Wednesday that the president has moved to have the committee set up, in keeping with the ruling of the Court of Appeal in 2009.
