The Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) in Guyana saw a reduction of 21.7% in total marine deaths for the year 2015. This was disclosed during the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s performance review by Director General of MARAD, Ms. Claudette Rogers. This decline was attributed to a number of safety precautions. In the year 2014, the total number of boat accidents totalled eight while in 2015 the number dipped to five. As the Guyana Police Force continues to investigate the mysterious disappearance of British national Dominic Bernard, investigators are now hunting for the relative whom the teenager was visiting. The 18-year-old travelled to Guyana on October 14, 2015, and while records show that the young man arrived in the country, he has since vanished without a trace. Government will soon be reaching out to the traumatised persons who became victims of the violence that flooded several communities on Election Day, May 11, 2015. Head of the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority (GNBA), Leonard Craig says that no official decision has been taken to revoke radio licences which were issued by the previous Government following a recommendation from one of the entity’s subcommittees on the matter.
