The taxi driver who confessed to the robbery and murder of the Guyana Goldfields Manager was on Tuesday slapped with a murder charge and appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. Government’s aversion to changing local laws in relation to sentencing of persons found with small quantities of marijuana has not gone unnoticed. A La Grange, West Bank Demerara man was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on Monday by Magistrate Clive Nurse when he appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court charged for cultivation of cannabis. Imtiaz “Sancho” Shaheed admitted that he was found tending to ganja plants on May 26 during a Police eradication exercise at Ituni Road, Upper Demerara.
