Five fishermen from Corentyne, Berbice have been rescued and are now safe after the vessel in which they had been travelling encountered a storm and sank in the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday evening. Police in A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara) are investigating the murder of an East Bank Demerara (EBD) carpenter whose body was dumped in a gutter outside the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. Dead is 28-year-old Shafiyq Forrester of Lot 197 Sarran Street, Grove Squatting Area, EBD. A group of enraged workers attached to the Albion Sugar Estate in Berbice on Wednesday protested their employer, the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo), for its decision to reduce their earnings for canal cleaning by some 75 per cent.
