Eighteen orphans of the Shaheed’s Girls Orphanage were awakened after an early morning fire at their Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD) residence on Saturday. While Minister of State Joseph Harmon had said Government shelved the idea of continuing the Amaila Falls Hydro Power (AFHP) project, Natural Resources Minister Raphael Trotman affirmed that the project is actually a renewable energy option for the Government. Fishermen plying their trade close to the Guyana Venezuela borders pounced upon by a group of armed Spanish-speaking men, in an area referred to as Crabdog, Waini River, Region One. The Bank of Guyana’s latest Statement of Assets and Liabilities are out and it shows that the bank’s total assets are on a slide, with several indices ranging from the bank’s gold holdings to its market securities showing reductions when compared to previous years. Two teenagers and the mother of one of them were on Friday remanded to prison for the murder of a Corentyne, Berbice security guard.
