Gunmen on Tuesday morning carried out a daring daylight robbery in front of the Ashmins building on High Street, Georgetown, which left a 57-year-old money changer dead. Dead is Prince Philip Alleyne of Lot 88 Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara, who succumbed to his injuries at about 11:00h at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). There has been a growing number of reported child abuse cases in Guyana and for last year, over 4900 such cases were recorded, an alarming number that is fuelled by neglect and other social ills. According to the Ministry of the Presidency, over 4900 child abuse matters were reported last year to the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA). From this number, 2400 were as a result of neglect. Phase One of the massive expansion of the Mazaruni Prison is set to be completed by October of this year.
