Even as authorities are trying to curb the smuggling of contraband into the various prisons across the country, another attempt was made to ferry in illicit items into the New Amsterdam Prison on Wednesday morning. The burnt remains of a 72-year-old man were removed from the debris of his burnt-out Berbice home after his son allegedly set the house ablaze. Sixty-six-year-old pensioner Abdool Jamil has been found guilty on two counts of child rape by a 12-member jury at the Sexual Offences Court on Monday afternoon.
