Eighteen orphans of the Shaheed’s Girls Orphanage were awakened after an early morning fire at their Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD) residence on Saturday. Fishermen plying their trade close to the Guyana Venezuela borders pounced upon by a group of armed Spanish-speaking men, in an area referred to as Crabdog, Waini River, Region One. The gunmen demanded that the crew hand over their boat and valuables, forcing the men to plunge into the murky waters of the Waini River. The Bank of Guyana’s latest Statement of Assets and Liabilities are out and it shows that the bank’s total assets are on a slide, with several indices ranging from the bank’s gold holdings to its market securities showing reductions when compared to previous years.
