Atwell out of “Night of Champions 2” – Marques confirmed to fight Lett

WBC CABOFE light welterweight title holder and Guyana’s lightweight champion, Clive “The Punisher” Atwell, will no longer appear on the “Night of Champions 2” boxing card, slated for February 24 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The pugilist, who has an unbeaten record after 10 fights, was down to face Kevon Diaz of Trinidad and Tobago in a 10-round junior welterweight contest, but the fight had to be shelved owing to circumstances beyond the control of Atwell’s camp.
This information was communicated to this publication by a senior official of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) late on Tuesday afternoon.

The official also revealed that Dexter “The Kid” Marques will have Barbados’ Selwyn Lett as his rival in an eight-round flyweight contest. Up to Monday afternoon, Marques was unsure of his opponent for the event, which is being staged by Champions Promotions in partnership with the GBBC, Elton Dharry and Pearl Vodka.
The main attraction will see Dharry putting his WBC CABOFE bantamweight title on the line against Jamaican Rudolph Hedge. This fight was brewing for some time, and according to Dharry, a win against Hedge, whom he has been calling out for the past year, will silence his critics.
The main supporting bout will be between local boy Kwesi “Lightning Struck Assassin” Jones and Barbados-based Guyanese, Shawn “The Sniper” Cox, in a 10-round cruiserweight contest. This fight was slated to take place last month, but had to be shelved after Cox could not honour the date due to some sponsorship issues.
Apart from the Marques/ Lett clash, the undercard will feature Jamaica’s Dean “Bad News” Burrell against Guyana’s Rudolph Fraser in a six-round lightweight contest; Mahmood “The Extractor” Loul of Syria is set to make his professional debut against Patrick ‘The Cow’ Boston in a four-round super middleweight fight, while Delon Allicock and Orlon “Pocket Rocket” Rogers will commence the show with a four-round super bantamweight match-up.
