Trafficking in Persons (TIP) remains an issue for Guyana. Due to Guyana’s porous borders, high numbers of foreigners are trafficked into the country. According to Social Protection Minister Amna Ally, some 16 foreign nationals were rescued from being trafficked during the month of May alone. The International Children’s Heart Foundation (ICHF) has performed another 23 surgeries on infants and adults during its latest visit to Guyana. The ICHF, locally referred to as the Baby Heart Foundation (BHF), has to date performed 100 procedures during 11 trips over the past three years. The capacity of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Air Corps has been boosted after Second Lieutenants Steffon Cameron and Teffurn James, have successfully completed a Chinese Air Force Basic Fighter Pilot and Officer Development Course. The two pilots have since returned to Guyana to continue serving, acording a release from the GDF.
